Since his debut as a soloist with the Colombia National Symphonic Band at the age of 18 years old, Dr. Javier Andrés Ocampo has been considered as a representative figure of the diffusion, creation and promotion of Latin American music written for saxophone in different formats and musical genres; from the genesis, interpretation and performance, his contribution has generated more than 40 new works, consolidating the saxophone in the cultural environment and the musical scene of the region. He received a laureate degree from the Cali’s Antonio María Valencia Conservatory, was awarded by the French government at the Conservatory of Music and Dance in Bourges (France), and later received a talent scholarship in classical and jazz saxophone to study at Arizona State University, under the guidance of renowned saxophonist Timothy McAllister, receiving his Doctorate degree in Music Performance with an emphasis on saxophone.
Ocampo has made important recordings, tours and concerts allowing him to have an optimal knowledge of the formats, repertoires, and composers of today’s music. Throughout his career he has been recognized with first prizes and mentions in national and international saxophone and chamber music competitions in France, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica and Peru. He has also been invited as a teacher and soloist on multiple occasions to Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, United States, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and France.
He counts with three studio recording works as soloist saxophonist, all of them dedicated to Latin American music from XX and XXI century composers: Concomitant: Modern Latin American Music for Saxophone (2012), Conciertos Colombianos Vol. 3 Música Andina Colombiana para Saxofón (2016) and Ocaruz Dúo: Eu Soy Latino (2017) for saxophone and classical and traditional marimba. Two recordings for saxophone quartet: Conciertos Colombianos (2016), and Cuarteto 4V entre Valles, Ríos y Montañas (2022), in addition to several commercial and popular music where he has participated as musician, producer, composer and singer. In 2017, he collaborated as saxophonist with the Indestructible Cigala Album, being nominated for American and Latino Grammy awards.
After serving for 8 years as Dean of the Faculty of Music “Conservatorio Antonio Maria Valencia” in Cali Colombia, currently, Ocampo is the School of Music and Sound Art Director from the Ecuador Arts University, a current member of the Board of Directors from the Latin American Saxophone Association ALASAX, General Manager of Bellas Artes International Saxophone Festival in Cali FIS, a Victory Instruments artist, 4V Saxophone Quartet director, and he integrates the saxophone quartet CAOVVA with renowned teachers and Colombian saxophonists.

The 4V Saxophone Quartet, Mono Núñez 2018 Instrumental Grand Prize winner, is led and conducted by Dr. Javier Andrés Ocampo, renowned international soloist and saxophone pedagogue. Since its creation in 2014, this chamber group has explored and represented through its repertoire and its performances, the vortex where classical, traditional, abstract and improvised music converge; 4 vibes, 4 winds, 4 visions and 4 voices that moves the audience into a world full of colors, sounds and images. Winners of multiple recognitions at festivals and events in Colombia, the 4V Saxophone Quartet has also been invited to multiple festivals such as: Colombian south west saxophonist Encounter, the Cali’s International Saxophone Festival, the Tadeo Lozano University Concert Series, the Guadalajara International Classical Music Festival in Buga, the Cali International Chamber Music Festival 2015, the UPB Instrumental Festival of Colombian Music, the Bellas Artes Contemporary Music Festival 2017, the Sunsax Festival in Pereira, the Clarisax Festival in Medellín, the “Toque Colón” concert days at the Teatro Colón in Bogotá́, SaxFest Costa Rica 2019 in San José Costa Rica, the Cali’s Teatro Municipal and the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia, one of the most important venues from that country.
They have recorded two CD productions “Colombian Concerts III: El Saxofón”, and “Entre Valles, Ríos y Montañas”, a production dedicated to the different regions of Colombia and its musics.
